Below outlines the rental agreement set by Rents with Maggie. 

Rents with Maggie reserves the right to enforce any terms and conditions.

0. General Terms

0.1 By renting from Rents with Maggie, you agree to all terms and conditions outlined below.

0.2 All terms and conditions are subject to change at any time. It is the renter’s responsibility to review and ensure they are aware of the current terms and conditions at the time of rental.

0.3 Rents with Maggie reserves the right to refuse service to any individual at any time.

0.4 All garments must be worn exclusively by the renter and must not be worn by any other person. Each garment is intended to be worn once only during the rental period.

1. Local Pickup Rentals

1.1 Local pickup rentals will be available for collection 1–3 days prior to your event. You will receive a confirmation email with the pickup address and instructions once your rental is ready.

1.2 Pickup rentals must be returned to the provided address by 6:00pm on the next business day following your event. Garments must be placed in the designated return box only — not in the mailbox or left on the street. Please note that security cameras are in place for theft prevention and safety.

1.3 Failure to follow the provided return instructions may result in liability for the full recommended retail price (RRP) of the garment if it is lost or stolen after drop-off.

1.4 We strongly prefer that pickups and returns are completed personally by the renter. If you are unable to collect or return your rental due to unforeseen circumstances (such as illness, vehicle issues, or an accident), it is your responsibility to arrange for a trusted individual to complete the return within the agreed timeframe. Late fees will apply if the garment is not returned on time, regardless of the reason.

2. Postal Rentals

2.1 Standard urban shipping for postal rentals is $16, which includes overnight courier delivery and a pre-addressed return bag.

2.2 Rents with Maggie is not liable for any shipping delays once the garment has been dispatched. All postal rentals are sent at least two business days prior to the booking start date. If a garment does not arrive in time, no refund or store credit will be issued.

2.3 If incorrect shipping details are provided, you must contact us within one hour of placing your booking to request an update. Changes requested after this timeframe cannot be guaranteed.

2.4 Late bookings carry a higher risk of not arriving in time. It is the renter’s responsibility to decide whether this risk is acceptable. A late booking is defined as any rental placed after 9:00am, three business days prior to your event. The postal cut-off for weekend bookings (including Fridays) is Wednesday at 9:00am.

2.5 If your event takes place during the day, please include a note at checkout so this can be taken into consideration when dispatching.

2.6 Redirecting parcels is strictly prohibited. Redirections increase the risk of delays and loss within the postal system.

2.7 If a garment is stolen after delivery (including from mailboxes or unattended locations), the renter will be liable to pay the full recommended retail price (RRP) of the garment.

2.8 All postal rentals must be returned over the counter at an NZ Post Shop by 3:00pm on the next business day following your event. Do not place returns in street mailboxes or use workplace collection services, as this can cause delays and incur late fees.

2.9 Rents with Maggie actively monitors return tracking. If a return is not scanned within the required timeframe, late fees will apply (see late fee information below).

2.10 It is the renter’s responsibility to ensure the return is completed correctly. This includes physically handing the parcel over the counter at an NZ Post Shop and confirming it has been scanned.

2.11 If the supplied return bag is lost, the renter is responsible for the cost of a replacement bag, including overnight courier. Please contact us via email or message to arrange an alternative return option.

2.12 Renters are liable for late fees or replacement costs for any returns completed incorrectly or outside of the stated return instructions.

2.13 Rural addresses must select rural shipping at checkout. Orders placed with urban shipping to a rural address will be dispatched as urban deliveries and may be subject to postal delays, for which Rents with Maggie is not responsible.

3. Damages

3.1 Do not attempt to wash any garments before returning them. Washing can set stains or cause damage if not treated correctly - please leave all cleaning to us.

3.2 If a garment appears to have been washed prior to return, Rents with Maggie may charge a $10 unauthorised cleaning fee, with additional charges applied for stubborn stains or damage. This is not covered by our accidental damage waiver.

3.3 An additional $15 extra cleaning fee may be charged for cleaning required beyond standard wear and tear. This includes, but is not limited to, mud, drink spills, and fake tan. The decision to apply this fee is at the discretion of Rents with Maggie.

3.4 Do not attempt to repair, alter, or modify any garments. If a garment appears to have been repaired, altered, or tampered with prior to return, Rents with Maggie may charge for damages and/or full garment replacement. This includes removing or cutting hanging tags, ribbons, or labels. This is not covered by our accidental damage waiver.

3.5 Please treat all garments with care. Avoid smoking areas, freshly applied fake tan, sharp jewellery, and cross-body handbags, as these commonly cause damage. Pulled fabric is typically irreparable.

3.6 Please notify us as soon as possible if a garment becomes damaged or stained. Early communication allows us the best chance to repair or treat the issue. Rents with Maggie may charge for time spent assessing or repairing garments.

3.7 If damage can be repaired by a professional, the renter will be required to cover the full cost of repair.

3.8 If damage is deemed irreparable, the renter will be required to pay the full recommended retail price (RRP) of the garment.

3.9 If a garment requires repair or replacement, the renter is also responsible for covering the cost of any future rentals impacted by the damage.

3.10 If repair or replacement fees are paid, the renter will not retain ownership of the garment under any circumstances.

3.11 The renter is responsible for covering the cost of any future bookings cancelled due to damage caused during their rental period.

3.12 If a garment is damaged beyond repair and is no longer available for purchase (including out-of-stock, discontinued, or limited-edition items), Rents with Maggie reserves the right to charge up to four weeks’ loss of rental income, in addition to replacement or damage fees.

4. Issues upon garment arrival

4.1 Upon delivery or collection, if you believe a garment is damaged or stained beyond what is disclosed in the product description, you must contact Rents with Maggie (RWM) immediately. A refund may be offered only if RWM agrees the garment is unwearable and the garment is returned within 24 hours, in an unworn condition.

4.2 If no contact is made within 24 hours of delivery or collection, the renter is deemed to have accepted the garment as-is, and no refunds will be issued.

4.3 If minor damage or staining is present but the garment remains wearable, RWM may offer a partial refund at its discretion. Partial refunds will only be considered for issues not already disclosed in the product description.

5. Product Descriptions

5.1 All product descriptions include both a “size on tag” and a “recommended size”. “Size on tag” refers to the designer’s labelled size, while “recommended size” reflects our assessment of which body sizes the garment may best fit. Recommended sizing is a guide only and may vary between customers due to individual body proportions.

5.2 All garments are assigned a condition rating that reflects their current state (see here for detailed information). Rental garments should not be expected to be in unworn condition, as most items have been previously rented. General wear is to be expected, and any notable flaws are disclosed in the product description.

5.3 If you have any questions or concerns regarding the sizing or condition of a garment, please contact us via Instagram DM or email prior to booking. By completing a booking, you acknowledge that you have read and accepted the garment’s stated condition.

6. Late Fees

6.1 Late returns incur a fee of $15 per day, per item.

6.2 If a late return results in another customer’s booking being cancelled, the renter will be charged the full rental price to cover the cancellation. Due to postal turnaround times, this fee may apply even if a return is only a few hours late.

6.3 If a garment is not returned within five business days of the required return date, the renter will be charged for an additional rental booking, in addition to any applicable late fees.

6.4 If a garment is not returned within ten business days of the required return date, the renter will be required to pay the full recommended retail price (RRP) of the garment, along with all applicable late fees.

6.5 Payment of late fees, including full RRP charges after ten business days, does not transfer ownership of the garment. All items remain the property of Rents with Maggie. Payment of late fees does not constitute a sale.

6.6 Any unpaid late fees may be referred to a debt collection agency. Please refer to Section 10 for further information.

7. Garment Care

7.1 The use of fashion tape is prohibited with all garments in our collection. If a garment is returned with fashion tape residue, a $20 damage fee will be charged.

7.2 If fashion tape has been used and has degraded the condition of the garment (e.g., delicate fabric pulling), the renter may be charged the full recommended retail price (RRP).

7.3 Ensure all fake tan has been sufficiently rinsed from the body before wearing our garments.

7.4 Avoid applying body oil or glitter while wearing our garments.

7.5 Do not use safety pins on any garments, as this may create holes in the fabric.

7.6 When wearing maxi dresses, lift the hem off the ground when moving to avoid damage.

7.7 Do not return garments wet, especially for postal returns, as this may cause mould.

8. Refunds/Cancellations

8.1 Refunds will not be offered if a garment does not fit as expected. This is a risk inherent to renting. Please refer to the recommended sizes in our product descriptions, the designer’s size charts (usually available online), or contact us via Instagram for sizing assistance.

8.2 Refunds will not be offered if a postal rental does not arrive on time. Please see Section 2 for dispatch timeframes.

8.3 Shipping costs will not be refunded or credited under any circumstances once the order has been dispatched.

8.4 Cancellations made seven or more days before your event date will be reimbursed as a store credit for the value of the order, less 30%. Cancellations made within seven days of the event date are not eligible for credit. Refunds cannot be offered for change-of-mind cancellations.

8.5 Change-of-mind cancellations refer to any cancellation requests by the renter that are not due to the responsibility of Rents with Maggie. This may include, but is not limited to, change of mind, sickness, or event cancellation.

8.6 The renter may reschedule a booking to a future date, provided the garment is available on that date. Rents with Maggie can only reschedule bookings that have not yet been dispatched.

8.7 If a booking is rescheduled and later cancelled, the cancellation policy and timeframes will apply based on the original event date of the order.

9. Discount Codes, Vouchers & Store Credits

9.1 We offer a group booking discount code. This is valid only on wearable rental garments and is not applicable to ex-rental pieces or the damage waiver.

9.2 Any orders that incorrectly use the GROUP20 discount code will be invoiced for the remaining amount due. If the invoice remains unpaid for 24 hours, the order will be cancelled.

9.3 Any unauthorised use or malicious obtaining of discount codes will result in the remaining charges being invoiced and/or the order being cancelled. This includes codes sourced from add-on services such as Honey or Coupert.

9.4 Discount codes associated with our rewards system are valid for one rental garment only. Orders for multiple garments with a rewards discount applied will be invoiced for the remaining rental amount of the higher-priced item.

9.5 All store credits are valid for six months from the date of issue.

9.6 All vouchers (including those gifted in giveaway schemes) are valid for 12 months from the date of issue or giveaway win.

10. Safety/General

10.1 RWM has security cameras installed for theft prevention and safety. Please be aware that all pickup and return areas are monitored.

10.2 Valid photo identification (e.g., NZ Drivers License) is required for bookings made through Instagram DM.

10.3 Cash will not be accepted as payment. All transactions must be made via bank transfer or through our online storefront (preferred).

10.4 Should a customer place an order while having an outstanding debt with Rents with Maggie, RWM reserves the right to cancel the order and deduct the debt amount from any refund.

10.5 Late fees and damage fees will be invoiced to the email address provided by the renter. All invoices must be paid within three days from the date of issue. Unpaid invoices will be forwarded to a debt collection agency, and the renter is responsible for any additional fees incurred through this service.

10.6 Once a debt has been handed to a debt collection agency, it cannot be reversed. Payment must be made according to the debt collection instructions, and initial invoices issued by RWM are no longer valid.

10.7 Failure to pay late or damage fees will result in a debt collection account. Unpaid debts may affect your credit rating and result in being blacklisted from Rents with Maggie.

10.8 Theft will result in a police report and permanent blacklisting from Rents with Maggie.

10.9 Rents with Maggie reserves the right to cancel any order or service at any time, for any reason. We may choose not to disclose the reason for cancellation.

10.10 By booking with Rents with Maggie, you consent to your information being shared with our debt collection agency if necessary.
