Try Ons

Photo Identification (eg. NZ Drivers License) is required before try ons can be booked.

In person try ons:

We will be ceasing all in person try ons from 4th April, 2025. We're very sorry for any inconvenience.

Cost: $5 (this cost gets deducted from your rental price if booked within 24 hours of your try on)

  • Try on slots are 25 minutes.
  • If you would like to bring a friend with you please let us know ahead of time. Maximum of 1 extra person allowed per try on. Note there is no private changing area within the try-on room.
  • Please do not bring any bags into the try on room.
  • Let us know which garments you would like to try on before you arrive, as some garments may be out for a rental at the time.
  • Please do not arrive more than 5 minutes before your allocated start time.
  • If a garment gets damaged while trying on, all "Damage Terms and Conditions" will apply. Please visit our Terms and Conditions page for more information.
  • Please do not come to your try on wearing makeup or fresh fake tan, this can damage our garments and you may be required to pay a cleaning/repair fee.
  • In person try ons can be booked on the day subject to availability. Weekly try-on times can be found in our 'try on times' highlight on instagram. Try ons run on a week-by-week basis, and may not be available every week.

Try ons are located in Upper Riccarton, Christchurch. They take place in a personal bedroom in a shared house, please be respectful. We understand trying on in a bedroom is not the most ideal situation, or the most comfortable for some people, but we want to be able to offer you the best renting experience and allowing try-ons is a huge part of that!

Pickup try ons:

Cost: $10 per dress (up to 3 dresses per try on)

Pickup try ons are offered most Tuesdays between 9am-5pm. Please read the process below carefully! 

  1. Browse our collection and decide which garment/s you would like to try on
  2. Message us on our instagram (@rents_with_maggie) to let us know which garment/s you would like to try on.
  3. We will let you know if any of your chosen garments are unavailable to try on.
  4. We will direct you back to our website for payment.
  5. Once your try on order has been placed you will receive an order confirmation email stating further details regarding your try on will be sent on the day!

When your try on date arrives:

  1. We will email you with the collection address and pickup box location.
  2. You can collect the garment/s any time that suits you.
  3. Return the garment/s to the pickup box by 5pm the same day.
  4. Once the garment/s have been returned on time and in unworn condition we will issue you with a discount code for the value of the try on.
  5. Pickup try ons are only available on Tuesdays. 

Terms of pickup try ons:

  • The pickup try on discount is valid for one week (7 days) after being sent to you.
  • If the availability calendar displays no upcoming availability before your event date, the garment is unfortunately unavailable to try on.
  • Rental bookings always take priority over try ons. If you have booked a try on and the garment is unavailable on a last-minute basis due to booking, your try on will be cancelled and refunded.
  • If the garment is returned with marks, damages or odours all damage terms and conditions apply, and you will not be offered the try on discount code.
  • Damage waiver is not available for try ons (though they are available, and recommended for event bookings following a postal try on).
  • Garment condition may deteriorate between your try on, and event booking. We will contact you if this occurs.
  • We cannot hold garments for your event date.

Postal try ons:

We are now offering postal try-ons! Please read the process below carefully.

  1. View our collection and decide which garment you wish to try on.
  2. Check our availability calendar on the products page, and select the date you wish to try on the garment. Postal try ons must be booked for Friday only, do not select your event date.
  3. Add the garment to your cart and add a note to your booking stating 'TRY ON'. This is not a discount code.
  4. Checkout as usual.
  5. The garment will be posted to you on the Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday prior to your try on booking date.
  6. Once delivered, you have 24h to try on the garment, package it in the supplied return bag and return it to an NZPost Shop counter. If your garment arrives to you on a Saturday we kindly ask that you return it to an NZPost shop the same day.
  7. Once your garment arrives back to us in unworn condition you will receive a 25% off discount code via email.
  8. Book the garment for your event date using the 25% off code. This code can be used on any garment (it does not have to be the garment you tried on).

Terms of postal try ons:

  • The postal try on discount is valid for one week (7 days) after being sent to you.
  • One dress per postal try on.
  • If the availability calendar displays no upcoming availability before your event date, the garment is unfortunately unavailable to try on.
  • If the garment is returned with marks, damages or odours all damage terms and conditions apply, and you will not be offered the try on discount code.
  • Damage waiver is not available for postal try ons (though they are available, and recommended for event bookings following a postal try on).
  • Garment condition may deteriorate between your try on, and event booking. We will contact you if this occurs.
  • We cannot hold garments for your event date. 
  • Do not return your garment to a street post box, these cause delays and you will be liable for late fees until the return tracking is scanned.
